On September 29, at the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan State Counsellor, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Revival Regional Foundation Mintimer Shaimiev held a meeting on improving the embankment of the Volga River in Bolgar.
As noted at the meeting works on improving the embankment began in 2014 with assistance from the Revival Foundation in agreement with the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
The first stage of works from the Museum of the Bolgar Civilization to the Red Chamber was completed on May 21, 2016. A thematic open-air exposition of the Museum dedicated to the history of the Turkic-Tatar writing was opened at the embankment. A pedestrian path leading to the historical part of the Bolgar settlement - the Khan's Palace appeared during the second stage which completed in May this year.
In August this year Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova visited the renovated embankment and was satisfied with the quality and methods of works.
At today's meeting, Shaimiev was presented concepts of the third part of the embankment - a one-kilometer walking path from the Gabdrakhman Sakhabe-Koesy sacred spring to the Kul Gali hotel complex.
In particlar, he asked designers to pay attention to the fact that this part of the embankment passes under the village where people live at all times. When determining locations to go down from the village to the sacred spring, it is necessary to meet wishes of the villagers, coordinate actions with head of the local government and people, showing respect for local traditions, Shaimiev said.
