On March 27, Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev had a meeting with Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Kazan Ahmet Sadyk Dogan.
Dogan is the 11th Consul General since the opening of the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey in Kazan in 1996. He started working in Kazan on January this year.
During the diplomatic service, Dogan worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, the Turkish Embassy in Alma-Ata, London and other cities of the world. Before to his appointment to Kazan, he was First Adviser at the Turkish Embassy in Sofia.
Before the meeting, the Consul General looked around the exposition concerning the activity of the Revival Regional Foundation in the ancient city of Bolgar and the island-town of Sviyazhsk and on new projects such as the Bolgar Islamic Academy, built just in one year, and the reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God.
Shaimiev congratulated the Turkish diplomat on new assignment and noted that the establishment of the Turkish Consulate General in Kazan was an achievement of the perestroika years, when the ways of multilateral cooperation between Turkey and Tatarstan were opened.
During the meeting, Shaimiev and Dogan discussed the opportunities of cooperative projects in the fields of culture, linguistics, education and historical heritage.
Dogan thanked Shaimiev for the warm welcome and noted that he was very glad to get acquainted with the first President of Tatarstan, whose major contribution to strengthening the Tatar-Turkish relations positively affects the further development of relations. He also told Shaimiev that he had already met Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, visited the Alabuga Special Economic Zone, the city of Nizhnekamsk, got acquainted with the sights of Kazan and gone to the island-town of Sviyazhsk.
