Mintimer Shaimiev lays flowers at the monument to Yuri Gagarin

On April 12, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Karlovy Vary (the Czech Republic) Mikhail Ledenev and Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev, who is on a vacation in Karlovy Vary, laid flowers at the monument to the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, erected in front of the airport of this city.

The 12th of April, 1961 is the day of the first manned flight in space. This significant date is celebrated all over the world.

Czechoslovakia was the first foreign country, where Yuri Gagarin arrived right after the flight into space on April 28, 1961. He was on holiday in one of the sanatoriums of Karlovy Vary in 1966.

The officials of the Czech Republic, representatives of the Republic of Tatarstan and other regions of Russia, guests of the sanatoriums of Karlovy Vary took part in the celebration.

In his speech before laying the flowers, Shaimiev noted the great importance of the historic flight of Yuri Gagarin for humanity and for our country. He thanked the senior officials of the Czech Republic and representatives of the municipal authorities of the city for help on preserving memory of the world's first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
