Nursultan Nazarbayev visits the exposition of the Revival Foundation in the Kazan Kremlin

On June 15, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbaev had a meeting with State Counsellor of the republic, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Regional Foundation for the Revival of the Historical and Cultural Monuments of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev. Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov also took part in the meeting.

Shaimiev showed Nazarbayev the exposition devoted to the eight-year activity of the Foundation aimed at the revival of the ancient city of Bolgar and the island town of Sviyazhsk. The Bolgar historical and archaeological complex, the Dormition Cathedral and the monastery of the island town of Sviyazhsk are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, he said. 

Shaimiev also told the distinguished guest about new projects implemented with the assistance of the Revival Foundation, including the construction of the Bolgar Islamic Academy and the reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Kazan.

The State Counsellor added that the complex of buildings of the Bolgar Islamic Academy was built in a year and first students were enrolled in September 2017. An intellectual elite of the Muslim Ummah of the country, masters and doctors of Islamic theology is trained at the Academy, he continued. 

Nazarbayev expressed his interest in cooperation with the Bolgar Islamic Academy. He noted that representatives of the Muslim clergy of Kazakhstan will be sent to study at the Academy.
