Sergey Kiriyenko together with Rustam Minnikhanov and Mintimer Shaimiev gets acquainted with the progress of reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God

On September 5, during his working visit to Tatarstan, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Russia Sergey Kiriyenko together with Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, State Counsellor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev and Metropolitan of Kazan and Tatarstan Feofan got acquainted with the progress of reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God. 

Kiriyenko firstly visited the Temple of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which today is the home of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and after that the reconstructed cathedral. Shaimiev said that the project is being implemented with the assistance of the Revival Regional Foundation, which coordinates activities of departments and organizations that perform construction, restoration and archaeological work at the reconstructed facility.

Kiriyenko also visited the Cave Temple, established at the place of uncovering the icon of the Mother of God. Despite all the events of the 1930s, connected with destruction of the temple, the facility has mostly survived.

Feofan noted that all the external construction work will be completed by November 4 - the Day of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God.

Kiriyenko highly appreciated the quality of construction work and the pace of the project.

At the end of their visit, Feofan handed in a miniature copy of the the Kazan icon of the Mother of God to Kiriyenko.
