Mintimer Shaimiev meets with Iran’s Consul General in Kazan Rasoul Shayan

State Counsellor of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev has met with Consul General of Iran in Kazan Rasoul Bagernejad Shayan.

Rasoul Bagernejad Shayan is the second consul general since the Islamic Republic of Iran set up the Consulate General in Kazan. He assumed office in March.

During the meeting, Rasoul Bagernejad Shayan shared with Mintimer Shaimiev his first impressions from the region, its people, and told about his first activities in Tatarstan.

Mintimer Shaimiev said the decision to set up an Iran’s Consulate General had been historically important, facilitating the development of economic and cultural ties between Tatarstan and Iran and cementing the relations between Iran and Russia.

The first President of Tatarstan recalled his visit to Iran in 1996 and the Iran President Khatami’s visit to Tatarstan in 2001. “It can be stated now that the friendly relations we founded at that time have been given a confident continuation. The cooperation between Iran and Tatarstan within the Iran-Russia relations includes increasingly many new spheres of our regions’s activities. Cultural ties have been particularly successful, which brings our nations closer,” Mintimer Shaimiev enhanced.

Rasoul Shayan thanked Mintimer Shaimiev for the warm reception and noted he was very glad to meet the first president of Tatarstan, whose merits in strengthening the Tatarstan-Iran relations deserved great respect. He expressed expectation the cultural ties between Iran and Tatarstan would continue to progress, the President of Tatarstan’s press service reports.
