The State Advisor of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev and Turkey’s minister of energy and natural resources Taner Yildiz have met at the Kazan Kremlin.
M. Shaimiev began by presenting a project on rebuilding the ancient Bolgar town. “We are pleased at the fact that over the recent years of reconstruction we have had great possibilities for full-fledged cooperation with the Turkish Republic. There was a time when representatives from the national intelligentsia found refuge in the land of Turkey, where they continued to do their creative work. Now we have many possibilities to cooperate in all areas and work to capacity,” the State Advisor told the meeting at a round table.
Ever since fundamental changes occurred in Russia, each President of Turkey has tried to support us on various aspects. “The relations built between Turkey and Russia are gratifying. They involve a high level of trust,” M. Shaimiev stressed. “Russia and Turkey have set the task to increase trade to $100 billion. Ten percent of the sum should be trade with Tatarstan, and there is every prerequisite for that,” he holds.
Taner Yildiz said in return that Tatarstan had made a great contribution to developing the Russia-Turkey bilateral relations and large projects. The official thanked M. Shaimiev for his personal contribution to developing economic cooperation between Turkey and Tatarstan, and for the efforts aimed to safeguard and promote Tatarstan’s historical and cultural heritage. “Our relations have reached a high level in all areas. This would have been hard to achieve without mutual trust and respect. I have faith in that our relations with Russia will sustainably progress,” he stressed.
