Mintimer Shaimiev meets with St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matvienko

State Counselor of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev met with St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matvienko on February 15 in St.Petersburg. The meeting took place at the St. Petersburg Government building in Smolniy.

Valentina Matvienko noted that it was Mintimer Shaimiev’s first visit to St. Petersburg as Tatarstan State Counselor and Chairman of the “Revival” Fund council of trustees.

“You did a lot for Tatarstan, its economic, social and cultural development. We appreciate your contribution to development of the relations between St. Petersburg and the Republic of Tatarstan. We are interested in continuing the fruitful cooperation. The new President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov continues your work properly,” Governor of St. Petersburg said. Mintimer Shaimiev agreed with Valentina Matvienko and said he would support his successor in further development of the cooperation between the two regions.

Mintimer Shaimiev also informed Valentina Matvienko of the project “Cultural heritage of Tatarstan: ancient city of Bulgar and island-town Sviyazhsk” and the presentation of the Republican Fund for reviving of Tatarstan historical monuments which would take place at B.Yeltsin Presidential Library in St. Petersburg.
