“Cultural heritage – Sviyazhsk island-town and the ancient town of Bolgar” complex project approved

The complex project “Cultural heritage – Sviyazhsk island-town and the ancient town of Bolgar” for 2010-2013 have been approved.
The project was approved at the Kazan Kremlin at the session of the “Revival” Republican fund Trustees Council under chairmanship of Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev.
Mintimer Shaimiev informed that the large-scale works on reconstructing the cultural heritage of Sviyazhsk island-town and the ancient town of Bolgar had began from “blank slate”, in some cases without approved projects. The start tempo was good, but it is important not to decrease it in the future.
Tatarstan Vice-Premier – Minister of Culture Zilya Valeyeva made a presentation of the complex project “Cultural heritage – Sviyazhsk island-town and the ancient town of Bolgar” for 2010-2013.
According to her words, the main purposes of the project are the following: to improve the physical condition of the cultural heritage sites and valuable objects from museum funds collections; provide public access of the museum funds objects and collections; to create favorable conditions for tourists’ staying and effective development of the tourism industry.
The project is divided into four sub-programs: studying the cultural heritage; preserving historical and cultural heritage; consolidating material and technical resources of culture and science institutions; development of the housing, tourism-pilgrimage, transportation, engineering infrastructure.
The expected total volume of the project financing makes up over 3 billion rubles.
