Tatarstan parliamentarians considered the issue of appointing First Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev as Tatarstan State Counsellor at the 10th session of the State Council of the fourth convocation on April 22.

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and First Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev are taking part in the session chaired by the Speaker of the republican Parliament, Farid Mukhametshin.

The State Council passed the bill on the State Counsellor of the Republic of Tatarstan on March 12. According to the bill, this post was established in order to thoroughly apply experience and knowledge of the President of Tatarstan, whose presidential term expired, as contribution to political, social-economic and any other kind of development of the republic. Not only the First Tatarstan President is appointed for this post, but the following heads of Tatarstan, willing to continue work for the good of the republic, will also have such an opportunity.

One of the main tasks of the Tatarstan State Counsellor will be to assist the Tatarstan state bodies of power to carry out efficiently their duties.

“It would be short-sighted to refuse Mintimer Shaimiev’s rich experience he gained while working for the good of our republic,” Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said.

88 deputies voted for the proposal and 2 against.

Mintimer Shaimiev thanked the RT State Council for many years of fruitful work for the good of the republic.
