Kazan hosts 4th Congress of Tatarstan Muslims

The 4th Congress of Tatarstan Muslims that will elect the Chairman of the Muslim Religious Board of the Republic of Tatarstan is taking place at the Galiasgar Kamal Tatar Drama Theatre on February 27th. Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev is attending the forum.

As many as 528 imams from different republican districts, members of the RT Muslim Religious Board Presidium and muftis from of Russian regions are taking part in the work of the congress.

Muftis of Northern Caucasian republics are also expected to visit Kazan. Among the guests of honour at the event are Ravil Gainutdin, the Chairman of the Council of Muftis, Talgat Tadzhuddin, the Head of the Russian Central Muslim Religious Board, and Ismail Berdyev, the Chairman of the Coordination Centre of Muslims of Northern Caucasus.

Besides, the Congress is to elect the leadership of the RT Muslim Religious Board and set out the development strategy for the Muslim community of the republic.
