State Council to discuss issue of vesting R. Minnikhanov with presidential authority

The Republic of Tatarstan State Council session, when the issue of vesting Rustam Minnikhanov with Tatarstan President authority will be discussed, has been scheduled for February 4.

A decision about it was made at the State Council Presidium session held by RT State Council Deputy Chairman Alexander Gusev today, January 29.

On January 27, Russia President Dmitry Medvedev proposed candidacy of Rustam Minnikhanov for vesting him with authority of Tatarstan President.

“United Russia” political party nominated three candidates for the post of the Republic of Tatarstan President in the end of December - the republic’s Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov, Tatarstan State Council Chairman Farid Mukhametshin, and incumbent President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev.

On January 22, Mintimer Shaimiev met with Dmitry Medvedev and made a request not to consider the issue of prolonging his presidential term, which expires on March 25.
