2010 declared Year of Teacher in Tatarstan

The year 2010 in Tatarstan, as in Russia, will be declared a Year of the Teacher, said today the Tatarstan Minister of Education and Science Albert Gilmutdinov at a celebration of talented youth, holders of the President of Russia Award.

“The year 2010 has in the Republic of Tatarstan been declared a Year of the Teacher. Using this opportunity, I would like to give my heartfelt felicitations to my dear colleagues on the wonderful occasion. Good health to you and to your loved ones, warmth and prosperity to your homes and families and more success in your work,” he greeted the Tatarstan’s educators.

According to the Tatarstan Education and Science Ministry, about 47 thousand teachers are presently active in Tatarstan.

Within the ceremony, held at the Piramida entertainment centre in Kazan, pedagogues who have made a considerable contribution to upbringing the nation's future intellectual elite nation were celebrated. The Tatarstan head of government Roustam Minnikhanov presented letters of gratitude and laptop computers from the Cabinet of Ministers to four teachers. The distinguished educators were Farida Malikova, a biology teacher at boarding school No 2, Irina Lerman, a teacher of the Russian language and literature at college No 78 named after Pushkin in Naberezhnye Chelny, Javdet Suleimanov, a professor at Kazan State University, and Pyotr Gurevich, a professor at Kazan Technology University chair of organic chemistry.
