On November 6, Tatarstan State Counsellor, a member of the Board of Guardians of Russian Chess Federation Mintimer Shaimiev met President of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) Kirsan Ilyumzhinov at the Kazan Kremlin.
The first president of Kalmykia Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has been the President of FIDE since 1995, and he was reelected on September 30 this year.
Mintimer Shaimiev has been senior advisor to FIDE President since 2011.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov invited Mintimer Shaimiev to World Chess Championship 2014 between the current world champion, Magnus Carlsen from Norway, and challenger Viswanathan Anand from India that will open in Sochi on November 7.
Mintimer Shaimiev thanked Kirsan Ilyumzhinov for the invitation and said that Tatarstan is also preparing for an important event - Russian Chess Superfinal that will be held in Kazan on November 27 - December 7, 2014. The event will be held within the framework of the programme “Chess in museums” at Khazine art gallery at the Kazan Kremlin.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov said that he wanted to visit Kazan tournament after World Chess Championship in Sochi.
Hero of the Soviet Union Tatarkhan Kubanov, Deputy Prime Minister Vasil Shaikhraziev, First Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs and Sport Khalil Shaikhutdinov took part in the meeting.
