Open-air exposition of Turkic-Tatar writing to appear in Bolgar

On October 29, Tatarstan State Counsellor, Chairman of the board of guardians of “Revival” Foundation Mintimer Shaimiev held a meeting on the project of an open-air exposition of Turkic-Tatar writing in Bolgar. The exposition is being created as a new part of the Museum of Bolgar Civilization on the territory of Bolgar museum reserve near the River station.

The project was presented by Director of the Institute of history named after Sh.Mardzhani of Tatarstan Academy of Sciences Rafael Khakimov. The exposition will include six historical periods: the Old Turkic period, Volga-Kama Bulgaria and the Golden Horde, Kazan, Crimea, Astrakhan, Siberia and Kasimov khanates, and written artifacts of XVIII - the beginning of XX centuries.

All presented material will be written in Tatar, Russian, Arabic, and English languages.

“The history of writing system is thoroughly studied, however there is no such a museum anywhere,” Rafael Khakimov said.

As far as Bolgar historical and archeological complex is the UNESCO World Heritage site the project should be approved by the World Heritage Center.

Participants of the meeting discussed the sketch design of the project that will be completed by GUP “Tatinvestgrazhdanproekt” by the end of this year.
