On October 2, Tatarstan State Counsellor Mintimer Shaimiev met new Turkish Consul General in Kazan Turhan Dilmaç.
Turhan Dilmac is the tenth consul general since the Consulate General of Turkey opened in Kazan in 1996. He assumed his office early in September. During his career as a diplomat, Turhan Dilmac worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Embassy of Turkey in Bishkek, Athens, UN Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, and Embassy of Turkey in Moscow in 2010-2014.
At the beginning of the meeting, Turhan Dilmac noted that he was happy to meet the former Tatarstan president in person. “Your name and work as the regional leader have been known to me since my childhood, I have always been interested in the history of fraternal Tatar people and achievements the republic has made recently,” he said.
The strong cooperation between Turkey and Russia gave confidence in its progress, he said. “Tatarstan has built every condition for successful activity of Consulate General of Turkey. It is a special honour and pride for Turkish diplomats to work in Kazan,” he said.
Mintimer Shaimiev stressed that the establishment of Consulate General of Turkey in Kazan opened ways for multifaceted cooperation between Turkey and Tatarstan and that mutual projects aimed to preserve culture, language and historical heritage are of special importance. He congratulated Turhan Dilmac on the beginning of his work in Tatarstan and wished him success.
