KAPO delivers another Tu-214 jet to customer after repair

13 November 2009, Friday
The KAPO imeni Gorbunova aircraft maker on November 12 delivered to the customer another Tu-214 jet after repair, said the company’s press service.

The jet had been delivered for service in July 2009. Over the time, landing gear legs were replaced and some other operations on fuel tanks performed. After flight trials, the Tu-214 was put in exploitation by the special flying team Rossia. The jet seats 164 passengers and makes special flights.

The Rossia team operates a total of 5 Tu-214 vehicles, manufactured by the Kazan-based aircraft plant, including 2 radio relay aircraft that provide “the chief” passenger with means of communication with land and airborne facilities.

The mass production of the Tu-214 was launched in 1994. Latter, the design was used to develop a whole family of airliners for passenger and special-purpose transportation. The type’s key advantage is the possibility to re-equip it into a required version depending on particular needs: changing the passenger to cargo ratio, routes, season and air companies specifics. The “convertible” Tu-214 was awarded the silver medal at the Evrika 93 show in Brussels.

The company is presently engaged in an order for several versions of the Tu-214: 4 special-purpose vehicles for the President of Russia Property Department (two Tu-214PU vehicles as a control centre and two Tu-214SUS), as well as two Tu-214ON (open skies) as a communication centre within a contract with the JSC Vega Radio Concern.
