Kazan is likely to hold international tennis tournament

The Tatarstan capital has a chance to host one more tennis tournament, Russian Tennis Federation Vice-President Alexei Selivanenko told the federation press-service.

The Tennis Academy was opened recently in Kazan. Dmitri Medvedev has already examined it. Russian Tennis Federation President Shamil Tarpischev highly assessed the centres and stated that international tennis games could be organized at the Kazan Tennis Academy.

“We are working on these issues,” Alexei Selivanenko said commenting an opportunity of Kazan’s hosting the tennis tournament. “It can be said that Kazan has become Russia’s sport capital. Tatarstan holds a confident position in Russian tennis. The new tennis centre meets the strictest requirements and provides opportunities for hosting competitions of any level.”

According to the Russian Tennis Federation vice-president, the federation would like to have as many partners ready for organization of tennis tournament s as possible - not only in Moscow and St. Petersburg, the organization’s website says. “We discussed this topic during our recent contacts with ATP and WAY authorities. A possibility of purchasing rights on organization of one more tournament in Russia was negotiated too,” Alexei Selivanenko indicated. “There is a possibility to purchase a week in the beginning of April before Monte-Carlo championship for a men’s tournament and a week in the beginning of June after Roland Garros for women’s competitions. Now the matter depends on specific steps of interested regional federation, in these circumstances, Tatarstan tennis federation. If such interest will be confirmed and supported by corresponding guarantees, we are ready to assist in receiving a tournament”.
