Volga Federal University to preserve “Kazan” word in its name

The words “Kazan university” will remain in the name of Volga Federal University, which is to be founded in Kazan, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin said on October 27.

“I can congratulate all citizens of the capital, they should be happy. Our Kazan State University undergoes a revival in 205 years after it was founded because it has become a federal university,” the mayor told journalists. “I can assure you that we have 100 percent agreement about preserving the words “Kazan university” in the new name of the university.”

“I congratulate all on this event. It is a considerable victory achieved under the direction of our President Mintimer Shaimiev. The credit should be given to his authority, authority of our professors,” Mayor of Kazan stated. “Nizhniy Novgorod, Ufa, Samara, Saratov participated in the bid; we won. That’s why we should be happy for this new victory.”
