Tatarstan ministers to remain heads of sports federations

According to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s recent statement, the heads of Tatarstan ministries and agencies in charge of sports federations do not have to leave their posts, the Tatarstan Minister of Youth, Sport and Tourism told at a briefing on the results of the Russia – Country of Sports Forum on October 26.

On the 23rd of October, at the Presidential Council for physical culture and sports meeting in Kazan, Dmitry Medvedev stated that a sports federation must be headed by professionals and ministers holding these posts now must leave within a month.

Marat Bariev pointed out that the head of state’s announcement concerns only federal ministers. “There has been no commission on republican sports federations,” M. Bariev said. For reference: the Tatarstan Minister of Agriculture and Foodstuff Marat Akhmetov heads the Tatar-Bashkir Wrestling Federation; the First Deputy Prime minister of Tatarstan Boris Pavlov heads the Field Hockey Federation.
