8 September 2009, Tuesday
Organizational issues related to preparation and holding of the International Forum on sustainable development of Russian towns were discussed at the RT Economy Ministry.

The event with participation of the Conference of European Ministers experts responsible for regional/spatial planning (CEMAT) will take place in Yelabuga in October 2009.

The forum is initiated by the administration of the Yelabuga Municipal District and aimed at attracting attention to issues related to development of towns situated near the objects of federal funding but developing without being attached to them.

It is necessary to prepare special programs devoted to support and development of these territories located close to Special Economic Zones in order to make them more attractive.

Engaging international institutions in discussions on these matters and working out solutions to mechanisms of town development was considered to be efficient.

At present the Yelabuga Municipal District hosting the forum is supervised and supported by the RT Economy Ministry on behalf of the RT Prime-Minister.

According to Marat Safiullin, the RT Minister of Economy, it would also be reasonable for the conference to take into consideration the World Bank research on business in Russia and investment passports of Tatarstan’s regions in the concept of the conference.
