Tatarstan volunteers to work at Olympics-2012 in London
8 September 2009, Tuesday
Tatarstan volunteers received invitation to work at the Olympics-2012 in London. Our young fellows will also be in demand at large-scale sport competitions in South Africa, Finland and France. Tatarstan Minister for Youth Affairs, Sport and Tourism Marat Bariev informed about it at a session with Tatarstan university’s rectors in Kazan Kremlin. The session was held under chairmanship of Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev.
One of key issues at the session was the republic’s voluntary movement. According to Marat Bariev’s words, over 15 thousand people are involved in voluntary activities in Tatarstan at present. There are 100 voluntary youth organizations and about 200 school unions and volunteers’ teams in the republic. They take part in realization of such campaigns as “Give Blood – Save Life”, “Help To get Ready for School”, “Yes We Can”, “Bring back Childhood to South Osetia Children” etc.
Marat Bariev informed about the necessity to train approximately 20 thousand volunteers by the Universiade-2013 in Kazan. They will work at 19 departments. 150 volunteers from Tatarstan gained invaluable experience of that kind at the Universiade-2009 in Belgrade. Now they can participate in training volunteers for the World Student Games in Kazan.
From the minister’s point of view, it is necessary that a certain university takes a certain field of voluntary work in order to increase efficiency of training. For instance, Tatarstan sport minister offers Kazan State Medicine University to coordinate medical aid training of volunteers. Kazan State University’s Department of Journalism can coordinate volunteers’ work at the Universiade-2013 press-centre.
Mintimer Shaimiev emphasized at the session that active work of volunteers must be encouraged. He also believes that the Republican Council for Charity can take Tatarstan voluntary movement under its umbrella.
