Gorbunov Kazan Aviation Works to attend MAKS air show as part of UAC

18 August 2009, Tuesday
The JSC Gorbunov Kazan Aviation (KAW) Works will for the first time attend the Maks 2009 aerospace show as a company included in Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation. The international air show opens today in Zhukovsky near Moscow, says the company’s press service.

The Kazan-based association is expected to complete accession to United Aircraft Corporation by October but is already positioned as a member of the holding, which accounts for a joint display. UAC’s policy, aimed to ensure advanced specilisation of its members, provides for the KAW manufacturing military and special air vehicles.

Apart from serial versions, KAW implements orders for the Tu-214 airplane for the President of Russia property division and is the sole enterprise producing the strategic Tu-160 bombers.

On August 19, the Kapo executives will attend a joint news conference with the aircraft designer Tupolev representatives, whose models make the bulk of the company’s product range. Tupolev’s strongest branch is sited at the KAW premises in Kazan, it is engaged in preparing design specifications for the Tu-22M3, Tu-160, Tu-214 and Tu-334 vehicles.

The press conference is to focus on Tupolev’s prospects. Besides, a presentation of two aircraft produced under the brand, Tu-334 and Tu-214OH, intended to be manufactured by Kapo, will take place. The company is already implementing an order for the Tu-214 OH (“open skies”). The model is designed to perform inspection flights within an international agreement on “open skies”. The plant’s executives intend on August 20 at the Maks 2009 air show to sign another agreement for supply of one more vehicle of this standard.

The company plans on August 20 to sign a credit agreement with the Bank of Saint-Petersburg for 1 billion roubles. The credit should help the Kazan-based producer refill its operating assets required to manufacture air vehicles.

On August 20, in conclusion of the MAKS air show’s third day, KAW's general director Vasil Kayumov will hold a brief meeting with journalists, telling them about the company’s prospective activities and summarising the negotiations and meetings held at the MAKS 2009 air show.
