8 Tatarstan-born Olympians awarded Russian orders and medals

The President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has signed a decree giving state awards to 128 Russian nationals, prize winners at the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing.

The head of state’s official website provides a list of the awardees that includes 8 Tatarstanians.

According to the decree, Elvira Khasyanova is awarded the Order of Honour, Gulnara Galkina Samitova, Vadim Khamutskikh and Daria Shkurikhina the Order of Friendship, Alexander Kosarev and Sergei Tetuykhin medals of the order For Service to Fatherland of the 1st degree, Yekaterina Volkova and Yelena Migunova a medal of the order For Service to Fatherland of the 2nd degree.

Of the 23 gold awards won by the Russian national team at the Beijing Olympics, 3 Olympics gold medals are held by sportsmen representing Tatarstan. Besides, the Tatarstan representatives on the Russian team won 1 silver and 2 bronze awards.
