Tatarstan Economy Ministry offers new economic policy

3 August 2009, Monday
The Tatarstan Economy Ministry will submit to the government of Tatarstan a draft territorial economic policy that focuses on local economic regions and sets strategic goals and priorities, said today the ministry’s press service.

The innovative socially-oriented scenario of republic’s spatial development and its economic potential will rest on its points of growth. The points of growth strategy is based on developing the priority economic complexes that are to provide a maximum effect in the short and mid terms, thus defining the development of the local economy.

Until 2012, territorial development is to be defined mostly by the existing points of anticipatory economic growth, the Kazan-Zelenodol agglomeration, Kama and oil economic regions, that is territories with the fastest economic growth, strong infrastructures, as well as the areas with concentrated mineral development. According to a concept designed by the ministry, after 2012, the prospective centres of economic growth, including industrial and agrarian regions with established and sufficiently diversified economies, potential for innovative development, strong human capital and unique natural resources are to increasingly contribute to the regional development.

To ensure Tatarstan’s breakthrough development, using the global practice of enhancing territories and industrial complexes’s competitiveness in managing economic processes, a cluster approach has been offered. Through valorising the transport, energy, telecommunications, industrial and social infrastructures, the coherence of the local territories will be enhanced. Tatarstan-wide long-term target programmes will set landmark measures for municipal socio-economic programmes considering priority development measures.
