Academy of Tennis to be put in operation before Russia Sports Power event

An Academy of Tennis and a multi-sport centre will be commissioned by the time an event called Russia a Sports Power begins, told a Business Monday staff meeting the mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.

According to the city head, the capital of Tatarstan will do everything to make the large-scale Russia Sports Power event unforgettable for all its participants. Within the forum’s framework, the Universiade 2013 student games will be once again presented.

The first Russian event called Russia Sports Power, which annual holding was on 28 July 2009 endorsed by President Dmitry Medvedev, will between 22 and 25 October be held in Kazan.

Attendees at the forum will be over 2 thousand leading athletes, coaches and sports officials from Russia and the near and far abroad. The forum will host a festival of sports-related films and a photo exhibition dedicated to the development of the Olympic movement and sports in Russia and Tatarstan. A national sports award in 12 nominations will be set up.

The multi-sport centre in Kazan will be equipped with a multi-sport hall that can be transformed into an ice rink and an artificial ice system, a data display, a thousand-seat stand, two gyms and other premises. The facility will be used to offer sports classes to younger people and local residents. During the Universiade 2013 summer games, the centre will host volleyball matches.

The Academy of Tennis is to be located in the area of the future University village, at the intersection of Pobedy Avenue and Orenburg Highway. The global-standard tennis centre is to include 4 indoor and 8 outdoor tennis courts and to fully comply with the International Tennis Federation’s requirements. In the future, the intention is to place here sports schools for younger people and offer training for candidates to national teams.
