Tatarstan President expresses condolences to Aksenov’s widow and son

The Republic of Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev has sent a telegram with condolences to Vasily Aksenov’s widow and son. The telegram text states:

“Dear Maya Afanasyevna and Alexei Vasilyevich!

On behalf of Tatarstan people and on my own behalf, accept deep sympathy in connection with the severe loss – Vasily Pavlovich Aksenov’s death.

An outstanding writer of the present, a person with an extraordinary, not simple fate passed away. Vasily Aksyonov’s bright talent, ironical view of life, unique writing style enslaved literature connoisseurs all over the world, brought him fame and recognition within the international literature community.

We mourn with you and share grief of irretrievable loss. The name of Vasily Aksenov - recognized master of prose, our fellow-countrymen and a friend of Tatarstan - will be preserved in our hearts forever. We believe Kazan festival “Aksenov-Fest” will become a good memory about this wonderful person.”
