An event called Days of Tatar Youth will be held on July 5-12 in Tatarstan. This year’s is the 19th time, Idel youth director Milyausha Sharapova told a briefing at the Tatmedia agency.

She said that 150 delegates from about 40 regions in Russia and near and far abroad states, including Ukraine, Belarus and Azerbaijan, would participate in the event. The participants are aged between 18 and 30.

Days of Tatar Youth are held to advertise and promote national values among Tatar younger people living in Russian regions and outside Russia, and to inspire their interest in the native language and the history of their people.

According to Ms Sharapova, a varied programme had been designed for the forum that includes training workshops, round table meetings, meetings with state authorities officials, as well as heads of public organisations and media. Tatar youngsters will discuss many urgent topics, including safeguarding the Tatar language, holding various events, religion, marketing, management and much more.

The programme includes an academic and research workshop called Issues and Development of National Education in Russia and National Cultural Autonomies, a workshop called Establishing Tatar Younger Organisations in the Regions, a round table dedicated to economics and finance, a tour of Bolgar, a meeting with prominent culture and science figures, and cultural events. The opening will take place on July 6 at the UNICS centre at Kazan State University.

Answering the question about the Tatar culture’s relevance for younger people, Milausha Sharapova said; “The younger people who live outside Tatarstan display a significant interest in our national problems.” The demand for Tatar culture is however lower than in the 90es, she added.

While speaking of the youth centre Idel’s plans for the future, she noted that the centre intended to launch a younger Tatar leader school and to hold a youth festival for people living in the Volga Federal District.

The Idel centre this year marks its 10th anniversary.

The organisers of the Days of Tatar Youth expect the decisions and proposals made within the forum to help solve various problems faced by the younger people of today.

The organisers are the Federal National Cultural Autonomy of Tatars, Tatarstan Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism and the Idel youth centre.
