Days of Israel Culture take place in Kazan

25 June 2009, Thursday
The Days of the State of Israel Culture are held in Kazan. The solemn opening ceremony of the event was held on June 24 at ‘Mir’ cinema theatre. The first secretary of Israel Embassy to Russia Lilia Chekhover and Deputy Chairman of Tatarstan State Council Rimma Ratnikova took part in the ceremony.

Rimma Ratnikova marked that this occasion is an excellent opportunity to establish confidential relations and cultural contacts between representatives of Israeli and Tatar nations.

“Peace and friendship has always been and will remain the goal of our nation. The opportunity to hold the Days of Israel Culture in Kazan proves the fact that our nations understand the power of friendship and cooperation,” Lilia Chekhover stated.

Acquaintance with the State of Israel began yesterday at the photo exhibition “Tel Aviv – the city of contrasts”, which took place at ‘Mir’ cinema theatre hall. Tel Aviv celebrated the 100th anniversary in April.

Films of Israeli film makers will be demonstrated at ‘Mir’ for two days (today and tomorrow). The film “Aviva, My Love” by film director Shemi Zarhin (prize-winner of the International film festival in Chicago) and “The Band’s Visit” (Grand-Prix at Tokyo festival, director – Eran Kolirin) will be shown on June 25 at ‘Mir’ cinema theatre. Another feature film “The Secrets” by Avi Nesher will be demonstrated tomorrow June 26.

Today, Lilia Chekhover is to present the best samples of Israeli literature as gifts to Tatarstan National Library and Kazan State University’s Lobachevsky Library.
