RT Supreme court moved into new Kazan buinding

June 19, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev took part in the opening ceremony of the new building of the RT Supreme court. The opening was also attended by the head of the Tatarstan State Council Farid Mukhametshin, deputy head of the Russian Federation Supreme court Vladimir Solovyev, head of the RT Supreme court Gennady Baranov.

Construction of the new building for the RT Supreme court and the justice department was initiated in 2000. Despite difficulties with financing, the Republic completed this modern 8-story building to house the main judicial power organ in Tatarstan – in proximity to both legislative (State Council) and executive (the Government) branches.

30.5 thousand square meters of the building has 24 court rooms, including 10 for cassational procedures, halls for presidium and qualification collegium. The Supreme court building will also house archives, premises for placing and keeping the accused, psychological relaxation rooms, rooms for judges, secretaries, library and a chancery.

Honorable guests, accompanied by the new «owner» – the head of the RT Supreme court Gennady Baranov – toured the premises, visiting hearings and presidium halls.

«Courts are a must for any functioning society, because no violation should be left unpunished. Any healthy state respects the law, - underlined the head of Tatarstan. – Courts never have easy decisions, but any one should be fair».

«The times we are living can't be called easy ones, - said the President of the Republic addressing the judges. – Quite recently our country was going through very significant change processes, and changes in society can't avoid the justice system. But the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedyev is paying great attention to supremacy of law and order in our country, and the role of courts is great in this issue».

«Establishing civil society and development of democratic institutions puts particular responsibility on the courts. People must have faith in justice, - believes Mintimer Shaimiev. – And with the working conditions such as yours now, justice system in Tatarstan should become impeccable. Any judge must be a role model of justice, as even minimal doubt in his decision nullifies all other positive efforts».

«We all worked hard to have this new temple of justice, - underlined M.Shaimiev. – We've built it practically without money in difficult time. And we managed to gather all 3 branches of power in one place, on one square. Now it is truly a Liberty square. My congratulations to all of you that we have such a temple of justice».

In his turn, deputy head of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Vladimir Solovyev passed congratulations on behalf of the head of the Supreme Court Vyacheslav Lebedev. «This is a present for all judges, for all justice system of Tatarstan, for all citizens of the Republic, - declared V.Solovyev. – It has the a castle appearance and a spirit of a temple».

As an acknowledgement of the Republic's leadership efforts in development of the justice system, Vladimir Solovyev handed Mintimer Shaimiev 1st degree medal «For the service to the justice system of the Russian Federation».
