Traditional celebration of the national Tatar holiday Sabatui took place in 48 Russian regions in June.

Sabantui was celebrated in the Republic of Komi as well – it took place in Ukhta city. It was organized as a part of the Tatar and Bashkir Folk Festival (over 2 thousand Tatars and Bashkirs live in the city). Guests from Syktyvkar, Vorkuta, Usinsk, and Pechora assembled at the event. Tatarstan Deputy Minister of Culture Gulshat Nigmatullina took part in the celebration.

At a session of Ukhta city council she noted that organization of such events is a good example of how national traditions are preserved and promoted. The head of Ukhta administration Oleg Kazartsev agreed: “People here have always lived in peace and friendship. I am grateful to Ukhta’s Tatar-Bashkir community for its active public position. No surprise: Ukhta is only 80 years old. It was created by newcomers. That’s why we are always glad to welcome those for whom our city becomes home,” he said.
