The Russian Federation Government Chairman Vladimir Putin and Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev discussed the social-economic situation in the republic on June 11.

Tatarstan President informed Vladimir Putin that the situation in the republic is stable and is controlled by republican authorities. However, the global financial-economic crisis made a tangible impact on Tatarstan economy, due to the fact that 60 percent of the republican production is oriented at export. “There are advances for the better,” M. Shaimiev said. He informed that Tatarstan enterprises will be reoriented to the domestic market.

According to his words, the most successful industry is oil-refining. The head of Tatarstan reminded that a high-capacity oil-refining complex is under construction in Nizhnekamsk. 50 billion roubles have been allocated for its construction already. In 2010 the complex will work in the conditions of balancing and commissioning and will be able to refine 14 million tonnes of oil in the near future, Itar-Tass reports.

Meanwhile, petrochemistry is facing a difficult situation, Tatarstan President pointed out. “We put a modern powerful manufacture on a wide scale, but prices for these products on the market are very low, consumption falls,” M. Shaimiev explained the situation to the Russian Premier.

Mintimer Shaimiev also informed that the construction complex runs stably in the republic. Nearly 1 million square metres of new housing has been put into operation; 10 billion roubles have been invested in overhaul of tumbledown housing.

M. Shaimiev admitted that Tatarstan, as well as other regions, faces unemployment problems. At present the number of the unemployed in Tatarstan totals 62 thousand people, but unemployment tends downwards.
