International economic forum opens in Saint-Petersburg

The 3rd International Economic Forum today opens in Saint-Petersburg. The event is to assemble leading politicians and economists. The delegation of Tatarstan attends the forum.

The conference will focus on the most relevant issues of the world’s present day. The attendees are to discuss new approaches to understanding the future of the global financial institutions, prospects for the banking sector, effectiveness of measures adopted by the governments and other, not less urgent problems. Russia’s role in resolving them is to be hihghlighted.

The President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev will within the forum meet with CEOs of international companies, reports Interfax.

Russia’s Economic Development Minister Elvira Nabiullina says that 5 June will be an “economic” day, while 6 June is scheduled to focus on finance.

About 5 thousand police officers are to provide security during the event. They will be assisted by colleagues from other Russian regions. The most controlled areas will be the exhibition venue Lenexpo, hosting the key events, as well as the main motorways.

One of the key events within the forum’s cultural programme will be a concert by the legendary British ban Duran Duran and the singer Anastacia. Free-of-charge concerts at the Palace Square, held within the Saint-Petersburg Economic Forum, have become traditional. Earlier, the Scorpions and Pink Floyd bands performed at the city’s main square during the forum. The city’s best cultural entities, including the Mariinsky Theatre, Alexandrinsky Theatre and Mikhailovsky Theatre, are to present programmes as well.

The forum will be covered by journalists from 27 countries, says the Vesti news channel.
