To September 1st, 2009 schools of Tatarstan will switch to "Linux"

Majority of Tatarstan schools will switch to "Linux" based open source software by September 1, head of information policy department of Ministry of Education and Science RT Nadezhda Sulimova informed on May, 21.

She said that now in Tatarstan the operating system "Linux" is established in 20 percent of rural schools and more than 50 percent of city schools.

While the free software will be introduced into all schools of Russia, heads of educational institutions will get a choice after this term to purchase license software at own expense or to use the existing domestic freeware.
