Ivanov Region’s governor arrives in Tatarstan

20 May 2009, Wednesday
The Ivanov Region delegation, led by the governor and head of government Mikhail Men, has today begun a working visit to Kazan.

The Prime Minister of Tatarstan Roustam Minnikhanov, Deputy Chairman of the State Council Alexander Gusev and the Industry and Trade Minister Ravil Zaripov greeted the guests at the airport.

The visit’s programme includes presentations of the Electronic Government of Tatarstan project and of the Tatarstan’s electronic commodity information system, as well as a meeting on modernising the Ivanov Region’s textile industry through integration with Tatarstan’s petrochemical companies. The parties are to sign a related agreement between the governments of Tatarstan and the Ivanov Region.

In June 2008, the city of Ivanovo hosted a State Council of Russia’s meeting, where President Dmitry Medvedev highlighted as a priority developing the textile industry, implementing advanced technologies of chemical fibres and thread manufacturing, and stepping up inter-branch cooperation. The President also made instructions to design concrete measures.

The government of the Ivanov Region has put forward the initiative of creating in the region an industrial textile cluster as a pilot project within modernising Russia’s textile industry, through integration with oil, gas and petrochemical companies. The newly-established cluster is to manufacture products using chemical fibre and thread, manufactured from petroleum. The cluster approach allows cooperation between effectively all the economy branches, including the industrial, educational, scientific and market infrastructures.
