Organisation of Islamic Capitals to attend Sabantui festival in Kazan

The Sabantui festival will on 20 June take place at three locations in Kazan, told at staff meeting today the Kazan’s mayor Ilsur Metshin.

He said, a great number of guests is expected. The foreign guests will have representatives of the Organisation of Islamic Capitals and Cities, an Organisation of the Islamic Conference division, among them. The OICC is to arrive in Kazan to hold a meeting.

“Representatives from this respected organisation have never before assembled outside their own states. They will hold their first visiting session in Kazan. We are seriously preparing for the event,” said the city’s head.

The Sabantui folk festival will, pursuant to the President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev instruction, take place in Kazan on 20 June. The celebrations will begin in the city of Nurlat on 12 June. The Sabantui celebration is to coincide with the city’s 100th anniversary. In other districts in Tatarstan, the festival will be held on 13-14 June. The presidential decree reads that the terms were “set in compliance with the people’s wishes and proposals from the local governance authorities”.
