Kazan becomes Russia’s third capital

Kazan has registered the right for ‘Russia’s third capital’ trademark.

In 2007, the Kazan Committee for economic development submitted an application to the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks in order to register the following trademarks: Russia’s Third Capital, The Third City, Russia’s Third City, The Third Capital and a graphic trademark.

In the beginning of 2009, the application was received. Now Kazan has all rights to use the listed trademarks, according to a report of the Mayor’s Office. Kazan and Nizhniy Novgorod participated in the bid for the title of Russia’s Third Capital.

Kazan is one of the largest and oldest Russian cities with a thousand-year-old history. In 2007, Kazan was recognized as the best municipal formation of Russia among 700 Russian cities. Kazan is on the third place in the country in terms of investment in the fixed capital (almost 70 bln roubles). In 2008, Kazan won the bid for the right to host the World Summer Universiade 2013.
