Kazan’s mayor: “We should prove Kazan’s high status with work”

7 April 2009, Tuesday
The mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin has commented on the media frenzy caused by Kazan having registered its brand of Russia’s third capital with the Rospatent intellectual property service.

According to him, the registration had been worked on for 3 years. On 3 April, Rospatent provided an official confirmation of registering the brands Russia’s Third Capital, Third City, Russia’s Third City and Third Capital.

“To be honest, we did not expect a discussion as massive as the one that ensued in the federal media and on the internet. We took it calmly. We should affirm the high status with work and should not stop at our present achievements,” stated Metshin.

According to him, there are many instances when a state’s official capital is not a favourite place to live, like Geneva, Zurich and Lausanne in Switzerland, as opposed to Bern, and New York and Los Angeles in the US, as opposed to Washington.

“We will do everything possible for residents in Kazan and the guests thinking of our city as of the most comfortable one for living, the safest one. So that all the conditions were provided to nurture a harmonious personality. This is our task, it is achievable,” the mayor enhanced.

He went on to say that Kazan had over its 1,000-thousand-year history played various roles, but even not being the capital, the city had never been “in the background”. Now, Kazan has all it takes to affirm and build on its high status, claimed the city’s head.
