“I Speak Tatar” contest results to be summed up in Kazan on April 26

Results of “I Speak Tatar” campaign will be summed up on April 26, the birthday of the great Tatar poet Gabdullah Tukai. The campaign has been held in the republic on March 20 - April 14.

Chairman of the World Tatar Youth Forum Bureau Ruslan Aisin, the head of the Department for national education and interregional cooperation at Tatarstan Education and Science Ministry Raif Zinnatullin, and a coordinator of “Uzebez” (“Ourselves”) movement Rimma Bikmukhammetova informed about the event at a news conference at Tatmedia agency.

According to their words, the goal of the campaign is to expand the area of using the native language, upraise its status, attract youth’s attention to national culture values. All participants of the contests will gather on Kazan’s Bawman St. on April 26.

A new project “The Tatar language – the language of the world and mothers” started as a part of “I Speak Tatar” campaign. Taking into account that Tatar is the second language in popularity in Russia and the language of international communication of the Russian Federation and the CIS Turkic nations, “Uzebez” movement and the World Tatar Youth Forum organizes collection of signatures in support of granting the Tatar language the state of the second official language in Russia.
