24 February 2009, Tuesday
The Tatarstan’s petrochemical producer Nizhnekamskneftechim today puts into operation a polyethylene facility. The company has by doing so completed the programme of launching new types of products in Tatarstan, such as polystyrene, polypropylene and polyethylene.

According to the Nizhnekamskneftechim’s press service, the polyethylene project, with a capacity of 230 thousand tonnes a year, was included in the Tatarstan’s Oil, Gas and Chemical Industry Development in 2004-2008.

The polyethylene production technology, based on the Spherilene multistage vapour-phase technology, was designed by the licensor, Italian LyondellBasell. Production is performed using a polyethylene plant with a capacity of 230 thousand tonnes a year, based on a Technimont, Italy, project.

Nizhnekamskneftechim is to manufacture black and natural-coloured granular polyethylene, some of the brands are to be produced in Russia for the first time. The applied polymerisation procedure has no rivals in domestic production.

The facility is unique both in terms of a product range and cost effectiveness, the share of energy in the cost of polyethylene being as small as 3.5 percent. Considering the cost-to-quality ratio, the local brands could be on a par with the foreign counterparts.

The total investment is about 8.5 billion roubles, the payoff period is 5 years.
