Delegation of Eastern Azerbaijan Province visited Kazan State University

Delegation of the Eastern Azerbaijan Province (Islamic Republic of Iran) headed by province Governor Ahmad Alireza Beygi visited Kazan State University on January 16.
Tatarstan Vice-Premier Boris Pavlov, State Advisor to the RT President for foreign issues - Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs to the RT President Timur Akulov, Rector of Kazan State University (KSU) Myakzyum Salakhov welcomed the Iranian delegation at the university.
Opening the meeting, Myakzyum Salakhov informed the Iranian delegation members about the university structure and history. The rector emphasized that eastern studies was one of the main fields at KSU historically. It has become of more importance in the recent 10-15 years.
According to Myakzyum Salakhov, contacts with Iran are maintained. A Center of Iranian Studies will open at the Oriental Studies Institute in the near future.
The Governor of Eastern Azerbaijan Province stated that history and scientific experience of KSU is a pride of Tatarstan. Ahmad Alireza Beygi believes that Eastern Azerbaijan Province is a connecting link in the relations between Russia and Iran. He also expressed hope that scientific and cultural ties between Tatarstan and Eastern Azerbaijan will consolidate after this visit.
The distinguished guest offered help in creation of the Iranian Studies Center.
On 17 March, speaking at a meeting of the State Council of the republic, where its Chairman Farid Mukhametshin declared his early termination of powers, Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaymiev said: “Mutual respect and deep understanding help to preserve high trust of our people.”
On 13 March the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the State Counselor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev accompanied by the regional Mufti Kamil Samigullin took part in the XIV Iftar of the republic organized by the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Tatarstan, the administration of the Ak Bars Arena stadium and the national tourist complex Tugan Avylym (My Native Village) at the Kazan Expo Exhibition Center.
On 20 January in the evening Russian President Vladimir Putin called Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev and congratulated him with his birthday. During the conversation Vladimir Putin stated that he is happy to hear bright voice of Mintimer (Sharipovich) and wished him good health and all the best.
On 20 January, congratulating Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev with his birthday, the Chairman of the Russian Government Mikhail Mishustin wrote in his telegramme: “Being a famous and political leader, you have made a substantial contribution into modern development of Tatarstan and have earned the deep respect and gratitude of residents of the republic.
