Tatarstan devises three social and economic strategies for 2009

7 January 2009, Wednesday
Tatarstan has devised three strategies of social and economic development for 2009, said the local economy minister Marat Safiullin.

The first scenario, optimistic, provides for Tatarstan retaining the key economic results it achieved in 2008. All the social obligations will be fulfilled to the full extent despite a downturn in the Tatarstan’s economy triggered by the ongoing global financial crisis, expected to occur in the 1st quarter of 2009.

The more pessimistic second scenario provides for a 4-5-month slump in the Tatarstan’s economy, while the third scenario foresees an even longer period of decline, with stabilisation and growth beginning in September-October 2009.

The three strategies will today be submitted to the Prime Minister of Tatarstan Roustam Minnikhanov and on 8 January will be forwarded to the President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev.
