Mintimer Shaimiev for self-control of journalists

President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev holds that the Russian mass media should independently develop uniform rules of journalistic ethics and professional behaviour in emergency situations. Any intervention from the outside in these issues from the part of authorities will not be perceived to the full by all journalistic community and, accordingly, these rules will not be carried out by all, as the majority of the Russian mass media for today are independent, - M.Shaimiev stated in interview to "Interfax" .

In his opinion, the journalists can be united and accept either the code, or a charter. This code of rules will be uniform for all journalistic community and make responsible mass media before a society, - the Tatarstan leader emphasized.

He also considers, that alongside with the uniform code or a charter, editorial boards should develop the internal rules of journalistic behaviour. There are different types of mass media - electronic, printed newspapers and magazines. And editors - in - chief should bear the responsibility, giving thus the maximum of freedom to the journalists working in this or that edition or on radio and TV, - M.Shaimiev counts.

As he said, the mass media is a mirror which reflects condition of a modern society, being at the same time its integral part. Thus, as M. Shaimiev specified , not much time has passed from the beginning of reforms "perestroika" however, domestic mass media, he considers, have made huge progress, having adapted much earlier, than a society to conditions of publicity and democratic development.

Always it is necessary to remember that the most powerful gain and achievement in a history of the newest Russia appeared to be a freedom of speech. It is possible differently to estimate economic development of the country, a social status of our citizens, but that fact is indisputable, that we have felt taste to a freedom of speech, - M. Shaimiev declared.

In his opinion, all events occurring in the Russian society, and especially negative, are reflected by mass media as a reality from which you can not get to anywhere. If to speak about last tragic events connected to the act of terrorism at the Theatrical centre on Dubrovka in Moscow, there was not so simply to orient not only for journalists, but also everyone who participated in this operation. Everyone has measure of the responsibility, and we should draw from the happened appropriate conclusions. Journalists in emergency situations require the duly official information from the part of authorities to correct the subsequent actions, - M. Shaimiev noted.
