Petr Sumin and Mintimer Shaimiev: Tatarstan and Chelyabinsk oblast may not develop independently

17 September 2002, Tuesday
On September 14, in Chelyabinsk the memorandum on cooperation between the Chelyabinsk oblast and the Republic of Tatarstan was signed.

The document was signed by Governor of the Chelyabinsk oblast P.Sumin and President of Tatarstan M.Shaimiev. Two regions are united by friendly, mutually advantageous relations. They started to develop more actively after the contract on mutual cooperation was signed in December 2000. The memorandum presupposes further development of trade and economic, scientific and technical, social and cultural cooperation.

"We may not live to a principle "On our own". M.Shaimiev said that he meant first of all powerful industrial potential of the Southern Ural without which today it is difficult to imagine the economic development of Tatarstan. He also expressed hope that in addition to KamAZ and Oka cars the Chelyabinsk oblast will purchase in Tatarstan last novelties of the aviation industry.

The governor of the Chelyabinsk oblast noted that the meetings carried within the framework of the Days of Tatarstan in Chelyabinsk have proved - the two regions may not live and develop independently, without each other. Today on many positions they develop in parallel. In particular the basic programs for the development of the infrastructure of regions have much in common - with regard to gasification, roads, housing.
