Egyptian ambassador visits Kazan

The Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Arabian Republic of Egypt to the Russian Federation simply could not leave Russia after his seven-year term without saying goodbye to President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev.

During their meeting on July 26 in the Kazan Kremlin, M.Shaimiev said that for these years Russia and Egypt have established close contacts. You have opened Egypt for Tatarstan and, what is very important, the President of Tatarstan said, you have opened Tatarstan for Egypt. You did a historical deed - and we shall carefully continue it. We have opened new opportunities, for example, Tatarstan students study in the Arabian Republic of Egypt at the expense of the Egyptian party. Before your departure home you have visited Tatarstan, it means that you have grown fond of our republic, our people. No matter where you work in future, you will always be a welcome guest here.

The volume of foreign trade turnover with Egypt in 2001 made $9,799,300. In the first quarter of 2002 the volume of trade between Tatarstan and Egypt made $3,144,000, (including export - 2,765,900, import - 378,100), 1,5 times exceeding the similar parameters of the last year. We have created a strong basis for cooperation which is not limited only to the deliveries of KamAZ cars, aviation engineering, and petrochemicals. We are going to expand our cooperation, said M.Shaimiev.
