The first important event after reconstruction took place at the Tatarstan presidential residence (former Governor's palace) on April 26. In the big reception hall (White hall), President Mintimer Shaimiev awarded its architects, builders and all those who had taken part in the restoration.
It is here, under the basement of this palace, that archeologists found the well-known coins, testifying that Kazan was founded 1000 year ago, the khan palace ensemble used to be located here, Kazan had risen from here. In the middle of 19 century the Governor's palace in typical of the Nikolai epoch pseudo-Byzantian style was built here. Its decor combines the forms of Russian classicism, baroque and old Russian architecture.
Reconstruction, which took two years, restored the majestic construction to its former shape. The internal interiors were created by Tatarstan VELP Studio directed by V.Loginov. The palace became more spacious and beautiful, now it fully complies to the project signed in 1843 by famous architect Ton and is ready to serve its presidential mission. In addition to the hall of receptions intended for grand events, there is also a hall of negotiations, chamber hall, the preisdent's office on the second floor, all elegantly decorated.
The fact that the Tatarstan President now has a residence of such a level indeed testifies to self-sufficiency of the republic, however, the main thing is that this magnificent palace is a property of the republic. The general part of the project was developed by the firm "Tatinvestgrazhdanproekt", the general contractor was the Turkish firm Odak, subcontractors - more than 10 companies.
