Kama bridge almost completed

On December 27, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev brake a bottle of champagne against the Kama bridge span.

It marked the completion of sliding of 1,5-km and over 9300-ton bridge spans. "The Kama banks converged" the poster said, although the automobile movement will start here 1-1,5 year after the whole passage is completed. The construction of the bridge across the Kama started in 1996, when the first pillar was established. For this time 13,000 cubic meters of concrete were laid down in pillars, and in January 2001, the first sliding of bridge spans was made.

According to Mintimer Shaimiev, this daring project fulfilled a dream of many generations. The new bridge will make the shortest connection between Kazan and Samara and Orenburg, transport connections between Tatarstan and the Samarskaya, Orenburgskaya, Chelyabinskaya oblasts, Bashkortostan and other regions.
