Oil and Education - two priorities of Tatarstan development

24 August 2001, Friday
On August 24 in Jalil settlement of Sarmanovsky district, oil industry workers celebrated production of 500 million tons of oil. Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev, Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov and other officials took part in the event. The celebration started with the solemn opening of the House of Communications and Ice Palace. A memorial in honor of the oil industry workers was unveiled in the central park of the settlement.

The same day in Almetyevsk, the Tatarstan President took part on the conference of heads of the republican education system devoted to information and communication technologies in education. The idea to give equal opportunities in this sphere to all children of the republic has real grounds. All schools of the republic, including most remote places, are equipped with computers: one computer to 43 students, whereas in Russia - to five hundred.

The conference adopted a resolution, in particular providing for allocation of budgetary means to supply school libraries with fiction, reference and popular scientific literature in the languages of the peoples of Tatarstan, to continue experiment on executing the RT Law "On transition of the Tatar alphabet to the Latin script".
