Security Council discussed Kamaz's problems

5 June 2001, Tuesday
The current situation at Kamaz was discussed at the meeting of the Security Council on June 1 in the Kazan Kremlin presided by Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev. The meeting mostly passed "behind the closed doors".

Great work on debt re-structuring resulted in positive changes, growth of industrial production volumes. However, it has to be seen yet how stable the growth is and what the future of Kamaz will be, considering the competition among automakers.

Another cause of anxiety - the predicted indexes have not been implemented by results of four months. The enterprise has debts to the budgets of all levels.

There are positive moments, however. Thus, for the first time in last years the consolidated group of Kamaz has managed to lower the costs of one income ruble to 99,7 kopecks. The costs of one ruble of commodity output made 91,7 kopecks. As of May 29, 8731 cargo trucks and 15100 cars are to be produced for five months - 90 and 100 percent of the planned and 6560 mln rubles worth of commodity production - 88 percent of the planned.

According to Secretary of RT Security Council V.Salimov, it was necessary to discuss key problems of Kamaz development. The most important was the problem of co-ordination between the main shareholders of the enterprise, including the RF Government, Foreign Trade Bank, Tatarstan Cabinet. The Council also considered an issue of side investments. Extra investments by both foreign and domestic investors are needed to rise the quality of Tatarstan's trucks to the world standards and to extend the range of models.
