Tatarstan President in Yelabuga

On March 19, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev visited Yelabuga and took part in the presentation of a new bus "Bars".

These buses are produced in the free economic zone "Alabuga" by OOO "Skantat-Alabuga" according to the Swedish technology. Part of components is made in Tatarstan. The bus on the base of KamAZ chassis is equipped with a septuplex engine Volvo-Penta, transmission of Kazan Motorbuilding Industrial Association made under the license of the German firm Voith. In future production of all "western" components should be mastered by the republican enterprises. The project can be repaid in 1,5 years and the republic will produce buses with the quality close to European and much lower price - from $65,000 to 70,000.

First two buses "Bars" were assembled today, and in record-breaking terms - the enterprise was registered only in the beginning of November, 2000.

President Shaimiev emphasized the importance of creating in Tatarstan an enterprise with total-lot of foreign investments. Addressing the Swedish party, he noted that their decision to create the enterprise in our republic is bound to bring positive results.

The presentation of the first Tatarstan buses was attended by the leaders of "Volvo-Penta" East European Office, "Skantat" company and others.
